Unemployment benefit claimant numbers in the UK have tripled in the last month

According to the latest labour market data, the number of job vacancies continues to fall, although it is still 11.0% higher than it was between January and March 2020. The unemployment rate is slightly lower than a year ago, while both the number of employed and the number of paid employees showed a slight increase in the last quarter.
The number of people claiming unemployment benefits rose to 135,000 from 36,000 a year earlier.
