UK economy to show moderate growth in early 2024

The UK economy returned to growth in January after entering a shallow recession in the second half of 2023, according to official figures, giving Prime Minister Rishi Sunak some relief ahead of elections expected this year.
Gross domestic product rose 0.2% month-on-month – boosted by a rebound in retail sales and housebuilding – after a 0.1% plunge in December, in line with a Reuters poll of economists.
