Retail sales growth in the UK in August 2024

According to preliminary estimates, UK retail sales volume (volume bought) increased by 1.0% in August 2024, above the 0.7% rise recorded in July 2024 (previously estimated at 0.5% but revised upwards). Several supermarkets and clothing chains reported growth, partly due to warmer weather and end-of-season sales. Looking at the broader picture, sales volumes rose 1.2% in the three months May to August 2024 compared with the previous period February to May 2024.
