Rising unemployment in Canada: June data
July 5, 2024
Canada’s unemployment rate rose to 6.4 percent in June as total employment fell during the month, Statistics Canada reported Friday.
The report showed employers eliminated a total of 1,400 jobs in June. That figure compares with an unemployment rate of 6.2 percent in May, when the economy added 27,000 jobs. The Bank of Canada expects a slowdown in the labour market, particularly in wage growth.
