Worldcoin Rebrands Itself

The digital identity project associated with Sam Altman, Worldcoin, has rebranded as World Network, or simply World, and launched its own Ethereum layer-2 blockchain, World Chain. According to World Network, they have registered over 10 million users across 160 countries who have provided biometric data for identity verification.

Another Crypto Scammer Sentenced

A U.S. federal court has sentenced an Indian citizen to five years in prison for carrying out a crypto scam worth over $20 million. Chirag Tomar scammed people by cloning the Coinbase crypto broker website and posing as customer support. Through the fake phishing site, he gained access to victims’ real Coinbase accounts and transferred their crypto assets.

FBI Arrests Hacker Who Breached SEC’s X Account

The FBI has arrested 25-year-old Eric Council Jr. for his involvement in hacking the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) X (formerly Twitter) account in January and posting a fake announcement about spot Bitcoin ETFs. Council faces charges of aggravated identity theft and fraud using an access device. Prosecutors claim that access to the SEC’s account was gained through a “SIM swap” attack.

Euroclear Invests in a Blockchain Service Provider

Euroclear, a Belgium-based securities settlement house, has announced its first strategic investment in Asia. As part of the deal, it acquired a stake in Marketnode, a Singapore-based blockchain service provider for financial market infrastructure. Euroclear’s goal is to contribute to the development of an Asia-Pacific market infrastructure aimed at simplifying payment flows and reducing settlement times.

Tether’s New Company Raises $3.5 Million

The team behind Plasma, an EVM-compatible, Bitcoin-focused project, has raised $3.5 million in a funding round led by Bitfinex. The goal is to expand access to USDT within the Bitcoin ecosystem. The project is spearheaded by Paolo Ardoino, CTO of Bitfinex and CEO of Tether. Other investors in the round included Christian Angermayer, along with Split Capital, Anthos Capital, Karatage, and Manifold Trading.
