Runes, a new protocol from Casey Rodarmor behind Ordinals, introduces a token standard using the UTXO model. Runes aims to streamline the process of creating fungible tokens on Bitcoin. The main difference between Runes and BRC-20s is that Runes, like Bitcoin itself, utilizes a UTXO (Unspent Transaction Output) model and will operate entirely on-chain. In an interview, Rodarmor clarified that the protocol serves no purpose other than creating speculative assets, providing a platform where people can create shitcoins.
