New Crypto Bill Proposed in the U.S.
U.S. Representative John Rose has introduced a bill called “BRIDGE,” proposing the creation of a joint commission between the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to study digital assets. The two agencies have differing views on certain crypto-related issues, including asset classification and the need for regulation.
ZKsync Activates Governance System
ZKsync, an EVM-compatible ZK rollup, has officially launched its governance model on the mainnet, based on a decentralized structure that now includes smart contracts. This innovation allows the community to participate in collective decisions about the protocol’s future. The model is built around three core bodies: the Token Assembly, Security Council, and Guardians, all striving for a balanced distribution of governance power.
Sky Votes on Removing WBTC
The decentralized finance lending platform Sky, formerly known as Maker, has submitted a proposal to remove Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) as collateral from its ecosystem. The decision is based on concerns over the token’s significant counterparty risk, linked to past issues with products associated with Justin Sun.
MicroStrategy Purchases Another 18,300 BTC
Between August 6 and September 12, MicroStrategy purchased an additional 18,300 BTC for approximately $1.11 billion, at an average price of $60,408 per bitcoin. The company now holds 244,800 BTC, valued at around $14 billion. According to founder Michael Saylor, the total acquisition was made at an average price of $38,585 per bitcoin, including fees and costs, for a total investment of about $9.45 billion.
Tether Expands Leadership Team
Tether, the world’s largest stablecoin issuer, announced the addition of Jesse Spiro to its leadership team. Spiro previously served as head of regulatory relations for PayPal’s blockchain and digital currency division and led government affairs at Chainalysis. At Tether, he will take on a similar role as Head of Government Affairs, overseeing policy development and collaborating with lawmakers, regulators, and key stakeholders.
